It is a three-disc set containing all of the band's Australian singles and a selection of album tracks, B-sides and rarities. It was released in Australia and Europe, and was available in the United States on March 30, 2010. The album was announced in September 2009 as a celebration of the band's 35th anniversary. It was produced by George Young, the older brother of Angus and Malcolm Young of AC/DC . The album's title is a reference to the band's 2003 box set Bonfire. The album Backtracks was commercially successful, reaching the top of the Australian album chart and the top five of the European album chart. It was certified platinum in Australia and gold in Europe. The release of the album was accompanied by a tour of Australia, Europe and the United States.
