The album was produced by Tony Iommi and features three new songs, "The Devil Cried", "Shadow of the Wind" and "Ear in the Wall". "The Devil Cried" was written by Ronnie James Dio and Tony Iommi and was the last song Dio wrote before his death in 2010. "Shadow of the Wind" was written by Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler. "Ear in the Wall" was written by Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler. Black Sabbath : The Dio Years was certified gold in the United States in 2013. It took some time for Sabbath and Dio to get into a rhythm, but the following year the band released a new album HEAVEN & HELL and went on tour. The collaboration between Dio and Sabbath wasn't destined to be a serious long-term partnership in the end, but they did release several solid studio albums and a live album together, and reunited a few years later to record another album: 1992's DEHUMANIZER.
