For this work, they reunited their successful writing team of Patti Smith and dark fantasy author Michael Moorcock. The track "Veteran of Psychic Wars" is considered by connoisseurs to be one of the band's best works, thanks to its length and song structure. The lead single from the album, "Burnin' for You", reached number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album's title track was also released as a single and reached number 49 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
