Founded in 1984 by bassist and composer Leif Edling in Stockholm, Sweden, Candlemass is known for its epic doom metal, which had a huge influence on a whole generation of later greats of the genre - Candlemass themselves were heavily influenced by Black Sabbath.

"Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" is a true genre classic, where every track is a monument to timeless and meticulously crafted doom. It is one of the quintessential and definitive doom metal records that immortalized the band in the annals of musical history and laid the foundation for a legacy that has lasted for over thirty-five years. Unlike many other bands of the time, who relied on speed to support their metal with the advent of thrash in Europe and the US, Candlemass departed from this direction and created their own phenomenon in the second half of the decade and beyond with their slow and haunting atmosphere.

The album "Epicus..." was recorded at Thunderload Studios in 1986 and released the same year, with Johan Längqvist providing the magnificent and inspiring vocals on the debut.

Marking the 35th anniversary of the release of the iconic debut, this deluxe three-vinyl edition includes a new, remastered version of the album itself, as well as a collection of key Candlemass recordings from 1985, which were made in the run-up to the recording of "Epicus...", in the form of the "Witchcraft" demo and OAL studio recordings, complete with the band's rehearsal of "Upplands Väsby" from November 1985.

Candlemass ' Epicus Doomicus Metallicus is an album I never get tired of listening to. Released in 1986, it's one of the first doom metal albums and still one of the best. The songs are slow and heavy, with epic guitar solos and strong vocals. The lyrics are dark and depressing and fit the music perfectly. This album is a must listen for every doom metal fan.
