New old Deftones It took a while for the band to get the final mix and mastering of the new Deftones album. In 2016, the time has come: "Gore" is the title of the long-awaited eighth studio album. Back in 2014, the Deftones began writing songs for the record, which was due for release in September and then November 2015. Finally, it became April. The time investment paid off, however, as "Gore" shows the alternative metallers in top form. The first proof came on February 4, 2016 with the single "Prayers/Triangles" - an angry nu-metal song about inner demons. Vocalist Chin Moreno's poignant lyrics and spherical guitars in the verses build into a monstrous metal finale in the chorus and at the end of the song. Deftones wrote a total of 16 songs for "Gore", eleven of which eventually made it onto the album. According to the band, their goal was to make a somewhat different album, unlike their last two albums "Koi No Yokan" (2012) and "Diamond Eyes" (2010), which were very similar. They actually succeeded in doing so: "Gore" is actually much less upbeat than its predecessors. The songs have different moods, but you can still clearly hear the Deftones in them. The new album also features a guest appearance. The song "Phantom Bride" features none other than Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell. Gore" was produced by Matt Hyde, who has previously worked for Monster Magnet, Sublime, Hatebreed, Slayer and Fu Manchu, among others. While he does indeed try a few new sonic approaches on the new album, "Gore" is still a Deftones album through and through. It has a bit of both.
Album valt binnen het genre Alternative rock, Shoegaze en Alternatief metaal.
