For "Koi No Yokan", the Deftones reunited with their proven producer Nick Raskulinecz (Alice In Chains, Foo Fighters, Rush) at his Los Angeles studio. Raskulinecz was also responsible for the bombastic widescreen sound of the previous album, 2010's "Diamond Eyes". Mr. Moreno recently explained to Entertainment Weekly what, for him, characterizes the typical Deftones sound: "Everybody knows we have an aggressive sound. It's not the heaviest, but it's often quite aggressive. On the other hand, there's a strange, dissolutely beautiful atmosphere in the songs - that's what I love about this band. For me, it's the epitome of what Defto carries!" Of the new album "Koi No Yokan", Chino Moreno told Billboard. com, "The new material is neither super fast nor slow. It's extremely dynamic! I don't think our songs have ever been as dynamic as on this album. We've managed to filter our two biggest strengths down to a point: Beauty and brutality! We combine something very beautiful with pure aggression." This time around, bassist Sergio Vega (who continues to fill in for Chi Cheng, who was seriously injured in a car accident in 2008) was a crucial contributor to the songwriting. No restrictions, no rules. With one exception: a delivery date, as Chino continues. "It was extremely important for us not to let it go. We've been known to work on our records for a long time. However, we finished our last album 'Diamond Eyes' in a record time of less than five months - exactly the same goal we had this time around. We wanted to finish it by the end of the summer at any cost. And we did it!" From their 1994 breakthrough debut "Adrenaline" to their platinum breakthrough hit "White Pony", the Deftones have always broken down stylistic walls, pushed boundaries and repeatedly redefined an entire genre for themselves and the music world with their metallic crossover rock. Koi No Yokan is the seventh studio album by American alternative metal band Deftones , released on November 12, 2012 by Reprise Records. The album was produced by Nick Raskulinecz and was recorded at The Village Recorder studio in West Los Angeles, California. The album debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200 chart and sold over 65,000 copies in its first week. Koi No Yokan was met with a favorable critical response, with many reviewers praising the band's new sound and direction.
