S "Infernal Overkill" uvedli teutonské thrashové legendy Destruction v roce 1985 svůj první skutečný LP počin. Na svém debutovém albu bádensko-württemberští zdokonalili svůj styl a vyměnili většinu heavy metalových vlivů z předchozího EP "Sentence of Death" za větší rychlost, větší tíhu a větší kousavost - což byl důsledný krok ve vývoji kapely, která se jednoho dne stala jedním z nejznámějších německých metalových vývozních artiklů. Pro nahrávání "Infernal Overkill" se Destruction vrátili do stále rozděleného Berlína a opět spolupracovali s Horstem Müllerem ze studia Caet, aby tuto budoucí klasiku přivedli na světlo světa. "Infernal Overkill" je právem považováno za jeden z nejdůležitějších počinů počátků teutonského thrashe. Dodnes je album v odborném světě vysoce ceněno, zejména pro zvládnutí obtížné rovnováhy mezi "chytlavostí" a inovativností, za což je zodpovědný zejména rychlý, těžký, agresivní riffing. Album je navíc autentickým představitelem poloviny 80. let, doby, která byla stejně živá a plná událostí jako vzrušující. "Infernal Overkill" s geniálními riffy, oblíbenou "Bestial Invasion" a mnoha dalšími skladbami, které zůstávají základem každého koncertního setu, byl pro Destruction přelomový. On their debut album, the Baden-Württembergers refined their style, swapping most of the heavy metal influences from their previous EP "Sentence of Death" for more speed, more heaviness and more bite - a consistent step in the evolution of a band that would one day become one of Germany's most famous metal exports. For the recording of "Infernal Overkill", Destruction returned to a still divided Berlin and once again worked with Horst Müller of Caet studios to bring this future classic to light. "Infernal Overkill" is rightly regarded as one of the most important works of the early days of Teutonic thrash. To this day, the album is still highly regarded in the professional world, especially for its mastery of the difficult balance between "catchiness" and innovation, for which the fast, heavy, aggressive riffing is mainly responsible. Moreover, the album is an authentic representation of the mid-1980s, a time that was as vibrant and eventful as it was exciting. "Infernal Overkill", with its brilliant riffs, the popular "Bestial Invasion" and many other tracks that remain a staple of any live set, was a turning point for Destruction. The album's release was followed by a tour with Slayer themselves that completely turned the young band's life upside down. In addition, the album "Infernal Overkill" featured the first appearance of the traditional Destruction logo and the infamous skull - two symbols that are still familiar around the world 32 years later.
