The album contains selections from Sinatra's catalog on Reprise and Capitol Records, and two previously unreleased tracks. The Ultimate Sinatra album was produced by Phil Ramone and Bill Miller and compiled by Sinatra's son, Frank Sinatra , Jr. The album was released on November 6, 2015 as a two-disc set. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 119,000 copies in its first week. It was Sinatra's first album to reach number one on the chart in 52 years. The Ultimate Sinatra album was praised by music critics. On Metacritic, which assigns a standard score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream publications, the album received an average score of 88 based on nine reviews. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic called it "an excellent survey of Sinatra's long and varied career", while Alexis Petridis of The Guardian described it as "an impressively comprehensive compilation". In a mixed review, Josh Modell of The A.V. Club said the album "has no relevance".
