Franz Ferdinand is the eponymous debut studio album by Scottish rock band Franz Ferdinand , released on 9 February 2004 in the United Kingdom by Domino Recording Company. The album was produced by Tore Johansson and recorded at his studio in Glasgow. The album was a critical and commercial success, reaching number three on the UK Albums Chart and number two on the Irish Albums Chart. It was also successful in the United States, where it reached number 32 on the Billboard 200. The album spawned four singles, all of which reached the top five of the UK Singles Chart. Franz Ferdinand was praised by music critics. At the time of its release, it was one of the most acclaimed debut albums of recent times. NME magazine rated the album as the second best of 2004 and it was included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. In a retrospective review, BBC Music called it "a landmark post-punk revival". The album has been cited as an influence by a number of artists including Haim, Chvrches, The 1975 and The Killers.
