Product information:The sixth batch of half a dozen titles in the Ancerl Gold series is sure to bring real joy to fans of the great conductor. The new volume brings together three very different genres of music. Firstly, masterpieces of cantatas by leading composers of the modern era, with Stravinsky and Prokofiev representing the wider international context and Martinů and Vycpálek embodying the Czech music scene. In fact, the cantata genre was a terrain on which Ančerl coincidentally felt truly at home: he knew how to deal with some of the peculiar expressive means of modern music and make them accessible to listeners; at the same time, he was simply great at working with the human voice and its integration into the large symphonic orchestral apparatus. The performance of Stravinsky's Les Noces is inevitably a major event in itself - after all, how often does one get the chance to hear the concert sound of at least four pianos on one stage along with the vocal soloists? The other cornerstone that holds together Ancerl's current group of titles is determined by the impact of the big, serious symphonic works, from Brahms' Second to Mahler's Ninth to the last two symphonic works by Bohuslav Martinů - works, incidentally, that Ancerl recorded at a time when the exiled Martinů was somewhat less acceptable to the political powers of his homeland. Finally, the last category of works represented here are instrumental concertos. Ancerl was indeed an enthusiastic and extremely diligent accompanist, especially when working with such soloists as Josef Suk and another famous "stalwart" of the entire Ancerl line, cellist Andre Navarra. Importantly, with Ancerl the orchestral accompaniment is never relegated to a passive background, but rather enhances and complements the soloist's performance and creatively completes the overall picture of the piece in terms of technique and style.

Album valt binnen het genre Klassieke muziek, Romance, Neoklassiek en Tsjecho-Slowaakse klassiekers.
