Renegade is the fourth studio album by Swedish heavy metal band HammerFall , released on November 13, 2000. The album was produced by Fredrik Nordström and mixed by Andy Sneap. It is the band's first album with drummer Anders Johansson and bassist Magnus Rosen. Renegade is a concept album about a knight who is betrayed by the king he served and is forced to become a renegade. Critics have praised the album for its heavy metal sound and lyrics based on historical events. The album was commercially successful, reaching the top of the Swedish album chart and winning a gold certificate in Sweden. It was also successful in other countries, reaching the top ten in Germany, Austria and Finland. The album's lead single, "Hearts on Fire", was a hit and reached the top ten in Sweden and Germany. Renegade is considered HammerFall's breakthrough album and is often cited as one of the best heavy metal albums of the 2000s.
