It is the first album to feature Andi Deris on vocals and the first to feature Sascha Gerstner on guitar. The album was produced by Charlie Bauerfeind. The album reached number 9 on the German album chart and number 43 on the Swiss album chart. The album was generally well received by critics. Allmusic reviewer Eduardo Rivadavia gave the album 4.5 stars out of five, stating that "Keeper of the Seven Keys - The Legacy is an album that will probably please most Helloween fans , old and new." He praised "catchy, anthemic choruses, muscular riffs and Deris' powerful, soaring vocals". Metal Hammer magazine reviewer Alexander Milas gave the album a 7 out of 10, stating that " Helloween have done the near impossible and created an album that is both fresh and familiar". He praised the "killer riffs and infectious choruses" but criticized the "lack of real songwriting".
