Violin Concerts of Two Wunderkinder Pavel Šporcl, unkonventioneller tschechischer "Wundergeiger", hat für seine neueste Aufnahme Violin Concerts of Two Composers, die in jungen Jahren als "Wunderkinder" gefeiert wurden. Richard Strauss schrieb bis zum Sommer 1882 an dem Konzert für Violine und Orchester in D minor Op. 8. Es verrät, dass der junge Komponist die damals populären Konzerte von Henryk Wieniawski und Max Bruch sehr gut kannte. Trotz seines jungen Alters schuf Strauss ein eindringliches Werk, dessen Solopart trotz seiner äußerlichen Eleganz zahlreiche Tücken enthält. Mehr noch als Strauss wurde Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897-1957) in seinen jungen Jahren als musikalisches Wunderkind gefeiert. Sein Violinkonzert hingegen zählt zu seinem Spätwerk. Listening to Korngold's Violin Concerto, it is obvious that the composer has been involved in film music for a long time, yet it is perhaps the directness and imagery of the piece that has made it popular with the world's leading violinists. By contrast, Richard Strauss's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D major, Op. 8 does not appear so often in concert programmes and recordings. The work contains lyrical and tragic elements, a lucid cantilena, melancholy and elegance, but it also abounds in intricacy, which places considerable demands on the soloist's technique. Prague FOK and its chief conductor Jiří Kout once again proves that behind the flashy image of a non-conformist violinist with a scarf or a hat there is a technically excellent musician who definitely deserves attention, especially for his flawless musical performance.
