The album features remixes of songs from their fifth studio album Living Things by various electronic artists. The album received mixed reviews from music critics. On Metacritic, which assigns a standard rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 50, which means "mixed or average" based on 5 reviews. Jon Dolan of AllMusic gave the album 3 stars out of 5, writing that "the album's appeal lies in its diversity" and that "the band members wisely step back and let the remixers do their work". Dolan also noted that the album "doesn't capture the magic of the original songs, but is still a fun diversion". Karen Gedmintas of Consequence of Sound gave the album a grade of C+, writing that "most of the remixes on Recharged are uninspiring and lack the punch and energy of the originals". Gedmintas also noted that "the album feels like a missed opportunity and it's hard not to wonder what could have been better.
