Mano Negra (Spanish for Black Hand) was a French band founded in 1987 by Manu Chao. Today Manu Chao is known mainly in Germany, mainly due to his very successful solo career. The band attracted attention for its combination of different musical styles (including punk rock, ska and Latin).

Mano Negra (Spanish for "Black Hand") was a French band founded in 1987 by Manu Chao. The band members were Manu Chao, his brother Antoine Chao, his cousin Santiago Casariego, Daniel Jamet, Joseph Dahan, Philippe Teboul, Thomas Darnal, Pierre Gauthé, Tomas Arroyos, Jean-Marc Winand and Anouk Khélifa. Manu Chao is now known in Germany mainly for his very successful solo career. Mano Negra has made a name for itself by combining different musical styles (including punk rock, ska and Latin). Manu Chao calls it patchanka (see also mestizo music). She has recorded five albums during her career. In the early 1990s, it was one of the most famous French bands. The band performed in many countries - especially in Latin America, which it visited frequently. The final concert of the "Cargo '92" tour in Buenos Aires was the last concert of the original line-up. The group broke up in 1994 after the release of the album "Casa Babylon", in which other artists also participated. Manu Chao launched his solo career three years later. (Wikipedia)
