Virtuosic and versatile Great news for all Mark Knopfler fans: the British singer and guitar virtuoso returns from the studio in 2018 with a new album. "Down The Road Wherever" is the title of the Dire Straits co-founder's ninth solo album, the follow-up to 2015's "Tracker". The album was recorded at British Grove Studios in London with Jim Cox and former Dire Straits bandmate Guy Fletcher on keyboards, Nigel Hitchcock on saxophone, Tom Walsh on trumpet and John McCusker on violin. The production was handled by Knopfler and Fletcher. 14 songs made it onto the album "Down The Road Wherever". They are about starting out in Deptford with Dire Straits, a football fan in a strange town, a musician returning home through the snow, and much more. Knopfler once again proves himself to be an excellent storyteller. Otherwise, the new album convinces as always with exciting guitar playing and a characteristically warm voice. "Down The Road Wherever" is available on CD, double LP and as a deluxe CD with two bonus tracks. There is also a limited box set with CD, double LP and 12" single. British guitarist-singer-songwriter Mark Knopfler is releasing Down The Road Wherever on November 16. The album features 14 new songs that draw on, among other things, Mark's long-ago days hanging out with his former band Dire Straits in Deptford. Mark continues to be one of those artists who has a poet's eye that allows him to see details that then project themselves into deep melodic songs that seem to be from the realm of personal psychogeography.The recording of the album has traditionally involved top musicians who Mark has persuaded to put their own imprint on the songs, but not to distort the original intent and atmosphere of the song. Knopfler himself, along with Guy Fletcher, produced the album.Mark Knopfler has released eight solo studio albums in his career, worked with Chet Atkins and Emmylou Harris, composed the soundtrack for The Princess Bride, Local Hero and Altamira, and produced records for Bob Dylan and Randy Newman, among others. He is a recipient of the Order of the British Empire and the prestigious Ivor Novellos Award for lifetime achievement in music.
