Nina Simone: Nina Simone Sings The Blues LTD versie op vinyl LP in remastered limited editie. Deze specifieke uitgave werd uitgebracht in Duitsland bij uitgeverij Speakers Corner Records in samenwerking met RCA Victor op 5. juni 2020.
In her social and private life, Nina Simone has always known exactly what she doesn't want. Sometimes she complained about the poor erotic qualities of her lovers, and then the audience got really drunk. Other times, she'd cancel the show without further ado, cursing show business. In music rooted in gospel, she sought a middle ground between jazz and pop, until rock fans crowned her the high priestess of soul (the LP's title) in the 1960s. This blues album, neither a tribute to the trends of the time nor a massive instrumentation or jubilant electrification, was also made during her undeniably most productive phase. Instead, Simone's simple, beautiful alto is cloaked in delicate organ sounds and pulsating, but by no means pedaling rhythms. The somewhat sober title, "Sings The Blues," here promises the crackling tension and relentless authenticity of a genre that for any black artist marks both the beginning and the perfection of all music. A reissue of the original could thus commemorate Diva's life's work on the day of her February 70th birthday and sudden death in April 2003 more vividly than any compilation, however well put together. Recorded 1967 by Ray Hall and Mickey Crofford at RCA Victor's Studio B, New York Produced by Danny Davis

"Nina Simone Sings The Blues" (1967) can rightly be described as a classic of the blues and soul genre. The intensity of Nina's voice and her piano talents are on full display here, accompanied by a great backing band featuring Eric Gale and Rudy Stevenson on guitar, Bob Bushnell on bass, drummer Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, Ernie Hayes on organ and Buddy Lucas on harmonica and saxophone. This selection of songs, some of the best blues songs of all time, gets back to the essence of the blues: raw and honest melodies that give you goosebumps.
