The double LP contains 16 tracks, the 2 double CDs additionally contain the entirety of Nina Simone's groundbreaking concert of June 16, 1968. The complete performance is thus available on CD for the first time. Nina Simone's story spans from the late 1960s to the 1990s and is linked to her legendary performances in Montreux. Since her first appearance at the second edition of the festival on June 16, 1968, she has forged a long-lasting relationship with the Montreux Jazz Festival and its founder and director, Claude Nobs. A special relationship whose uniqueness, trust and tremulous tension can be clearly heard in the recordings. The book "Nina Simone: The Montreux Years" reveals a singer's history that is as multifaceted as it is radical. Beginning with Nina's dazzling and emotional performance in 1968 and continuing with her fiery and unpredictable 1976 concert (one of the most spectacular performances in the festival's history), the collection includes recordings of all five of her legendary Montreux concerts from 1968, 1976, 1981, 1987 and 1990. Also included is rare and previously unreleased material from Claude Jobs' extensive archival collection (Montreux Sounds); fans of Nina Simone will be especially thrilled by the powerful "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free", the poignantly fearless "Four Women" and her hauntingly beautiful rendition of "Ne Me Quitte Pas". Alongside a haunting version of Janis Ian's powerful "Stars" (which Simone first sang during her 1976 Montreux performance) is a confident and haunting reworking of Bob Marley's 1990 ballad "No Woman No Cry". The collection culminates with an encore from Nina Simone's last performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival, one of her most popular and best-known songs - the lively "My Baby Just Cares For Me", which reflects all aspects of her life and music.
