Mikael Åkerfeldt comments, "I know that Blackwater Park was a stepping stone to professionalism for us. Since then the band has taken up all our time and we have never looked back. Blackwater Park is the fifth studio album by Swedish progressive death metal band Opeth, released in 2001.The album was recorded at Stockholm's Park Studios and produced by Steven Wilson and Opeth.It was the band's first album to feature keyboardist Per Wiberg. Blackwater Park is often considered Opeth's masterpiece, combining elements of death metal, progressive rock and folk music, and featuring intricate arrangements and virtuosic playing. The songs are dark and atmospheric and the lyrics are inspired by nature and mythology. The album was well received by critics and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. It has been praised for its musicianship, songwriting and production values and is considered one of the most influential metal albums of the 2000s.
