OMD in their element "The Punishment Of Luxury" is the title of the new album Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, OMD for short, their thirteenth studio album and the successor to "English Electric". In 2017, the British synth-pop legends return to their beginnings with a new album, experimenting with more gusto than ever before. Proof of this thesis are the twelve brand new tracks, including the first single "La Mitrailleuse" (Maschinengewehr in German), which lives up to its title: alongside the monks' chants, cannon fire sounds in the loop. All tracks were alternately written in the two studios of founding members Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys in Merseyside and London, where they were eventually recorded and produced. Incidentally, the title "Punishment for Luxury" comes from an 1891 painting by Italian painter Giovanni Segantini, which McCluskey had previously seen at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. In addition to the CD, "The Punishment Of Luxury" is also available on LP, in a mediabook edition with CD and DVD, and in a limited super deluxe edition with a double CD, DVD and LP.
