With a more meticulous and reinvigorated production style, Saxon have now captured for eternity ten of their most powerful and inspiring songs in many years. This album is a worthy successor to their last album "Call To Arms". "Less gimmicks, more power!" says frontman and founder Biff Byford, "My instruction to the band was to be raw, real and don't be afraid to be inspired by our old classics." The album was recorded at LS Studios in Yorkshire and Byford produced it with Andy Sneap. Mixing and engineering was handled by Jacky Lehmann. Brimming with power and metal fervor, the guitar work of Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt is amazing and Biff's voice sounds fresher and more alive than ever. The songs harken back to the classic Saxon era, with highlights like "Warriors Of The Road", "Wheels Of Terror" and "Stand Up And Fight" recalling the golden days of yore, but with a modern twist that combines the classic Saxon sound with the growl, ferocity and attitude of contemporary bands (and fans) like Megadeth. The title track "Sacrifice" in particular proves very impressively that this combination works perfectly. "It's more of an 'early 80s thrash' point of view," Biff explains, "the guitars have more drive, purpose and perspective, rather than just plopping around dully and chaotically." In addition to the new material, Saxon will include reissued classics on the release in unique versions for some formats, also produced by Byford and mastered by Andy Sneap, including an orchestral version of "Crusader" and an acoustic version of "Frozen Rainbow." Saxon Sacrifice is a return to the band's classic sound with thundering drums, churning guitars and Biff Byford's signature vocals. The album is a tribute to the fans who have been with the band for over 35 years. From the opening track "Procession" to the anthemic "Sacrifice", the album is packed with classic Saxon metal. "Wheels of Steel" and "Denim and Leather" are among the highlights, but the entire album is a joy to listen to. If you are a fan of classic metal, you need to give Sacrifice a listen.
