Still Corners are releasing their excellent new album "Strange Pleasures" on Sub Pop, the follow up to the highly praised "Creatures Of An Hour". The album is headlined by the single "Berlin Lovers" as well as highlights "Beginning To Blue", "Future Age", "Beatcity" and the already released teaser for the album "Fireflies". "Strange Pleasures" was produced by band leader Greg Hughes in his London studio. The band's second album Still Corners is certainly destined to be placed on the Olympus of deep dream pop. Where its predecessor toyed with the saccharine layers of shoegazing retro-futurism, Strange Pleasures is a sinewy, more matter-of-fact interpretation of 80s songwriting and studio art. '80s, straddling the malleable line between velvety noir pop à la Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks) and the celestial beauty of The Cocteau Twins, with subtle protrusions toward that territory that first appeared on the charts of Modern English, The Cure, and The Passions, while leaning toward the cool, graceful ignorance of '80s European poppers like Berntholer and Virna Lindt in between.
