Product Information When I met Sufjan some time ago, he co-organized an art event we performed at in New York called "Christ A Go-Go". I have a picture in my mind from that time that Sufjan was always somewhere else in the room. "There's Sufjan, you have to meet him and listen to his music - he's great," his proud friend Melissa bragged. When I finally met Sufjan, he seemed reserved and didn't want to talk much about his music. I don't remember what happened after that, but now Sufjan is a very good friend to me and my family. For about a year my two-year-old daughter wanted to marry "Uncle Suf". Some people leave NYC for a weekend in the Hamptons; Sufjan takes the bus to Clarksboro, NJ and we love having him every time. We play shows together with Sufjan. I've asked him to dress up in silly costumes and cast various roles in Danielson Famile concerts, and he has been so gracious and helpful. But more importantly, many times Sufjan started the evening by sharing his own songs on borrowed banjo and guitars. I love watching people hear and see Sufjan play his songs. Sometimes Sufjan stands alone on stage, singing and playing softly with the banjo, and what you hear, see and feel is sheer power. The mind and heart are changed. Sufjan Stevens writes songs. He also writes fiction, is a music producer, plays every modern instrument, is a graphic designer, and knits for Martha Stewart. But "Seven Swans" is primarily a testament to Sufjan's songwriting. The songs are the foundation, and Sufjan's voice, instruments and his friends dance around them to celebrate where they come from. Where do they come from?
