In 1976, on Thanksgiving Day, the band made its last appearance on the stage of San Francisco's Winterland Theatre. The concert, aptly titled The Last Waltz, has gone down in music history as one of the most acclaimed performances. Not least because Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Richard Mamel and Robbie Robertson were backed by a superb all-star cast of then-legendary musical pioneers, including Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Ronnie Hawkins, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters and Neil Young. The spectacular evening was captured on film by director Martin Scorcese and released in cinemas in April 1978. The Last Waltz is still considered one of the best concert films ever made. Rhino is celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Last Waltz with a 40th Anniversary Edition, released on 4CD/Blu-Ray and for the first time on 6 LP, featuring an incredible 54 tracks, including the entire concert as well as rehearsal and performance recordings. The original soundtrack is also released with remastered sound on 2CD.

On November 25, 1976, a farewell concert by the Canadian rock group The Band was held in Winterland, San Francisco. An unforgettable celebration that ultimately lasted more than five hours and featured such bandmates as Paul Butterfield, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris and Ringo Starr, not least captured on film by Martin Scorsese. This double hybrid SACD is Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab's first disc to be mastered with 4x DSD. It comes in a hard cardboard case with an extensive booklet containing numerous photographs. MoFi now reissues the legendary concert remastered from the original master tapes by Shawn R. Britton... Review of "Sound?
