The Clash is the debut studio album by English punk rock band The Clash , released on 8 April 1977 by CBS Records. The album was recorded in late 1976 and early 1977 at Wessex Studios in London. It was produced by Mickey Foote and The Clash and was well received by the public and critics. It reached number 12 in the UK Albums Chart and was awarded a gold certificate by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) in February 1978. In the United States, the album charted at number 116 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in March 1989. The Clash includes the singles "White Riot", "London's Burning", "Remote Control" and "I'm So Bored with the U.S.A.". The album is being touted as a seminal punk rock album. In 2003, the album was ranked #313 on Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
