Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me is a departure from the band's previous work and features a more upbeat and poppy sound. Robert Smith has said of the album that it is "the band's most commercial album" and that he "didn't enjoy making it as much as I enjoyed making the previous three". However, he also stated that it was "one of my favourite albums". The album was well received by critics, with many praising its pop-oriented sound.
