The Ocean: Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic versie op vinyl LP in standaard editie. Deze specifieke uitgave werd uitgebracht in Duitsland bij uitgeverij Pelagic Records op 25. september 2020.
"Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic" will be the follow-up to 2018's concept album "Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic". Phanerozoic I is widely regarded as The Ocean's interim masterpiece. Full of amazing melodies and the expected meandering post-metal elements, the album reached #41 on the German charts, and for the first time it also reached higher positions in the US. Guitarist Staps explains, "The first part of Phanerozoic is strangely enough really an album that I can say: I don't regret anything. That rarely happens unless it's the first time. I still don't think it could get any better, and the material hasn't become boring even after more than 130 shows - now tried and tested live, of course. The second part is not meant to be as straightforward compositionally as the first part. Phanerozoic II" is more experimental, more eclectic in style and direction, more varied in tempo, rhythms, guitar work and use of electronic sounds. This was the intention; the first part was meant to feel relatively uncluttered and coherent. It was about a consistent mood from the first note to the last, while the crazier, bolder and more progressive stuff was saved for the second part. The result is an album that feels like an adventure trip. It starts in one place and ends in a completely different place. In a way it's related to Pelagial, which was similar, though more purposeful, focused and predictable. Fanerozoic II can be likened to a free-fall experience." The new album was recorded in Iceland, Spain and Germany under the guidance of producer Jens Bogren.
Album valt binnen het genre Rock, Postmetal, Sludgemetaal en Progressief metaal. 180g Vinyl.
