Debutové album anglické rockové skupiny The Soft Machine (pojmenované podle románu Williama S. Burroughse), která je spolu s Caravan jedním z nejznámějších představitelů "Canterbury Sound". Toto mistrovské dílo vyšlo v roce 1968 a tvořilo ho trio Robert Wyatt (bicí a zpěv), Mike Ratledge (varhany a klavír) a Kevin Ayers (baskytara, zpěv a klavír). Bylo to jediné album skupiny, na kterém se Ayers podílel. Dalšími členy byli baskytarista Hugh Hopper (který se později po Ayersově odchodu stal stálým členem) a newyorská vokální skupina The Cake. The Soft Machine bylo jedním z prvních alb, která byla nahrána v legendárních manhattanských studiích The Record Plant, jež byla otevřena ve stejném roce, kdy zde vyšlo album Jimiho Hendrixe Electric Ladyland. Album získalo pětihvězdičkové hodnocení na serveru AllMusic od Richieho Unterbergera. Skupina je považována za jednu z nejvlivnějších undergroundových kapel své doby.
