They survived a massive audience turnover and the departure of important band members - and wrote arguably progressive rock's greatest success story. The band could only hint at the ingredients on their simply titled 1969 debut, "Yes," but it wasn't just the spectacularly bold covers of "I See You" (Byrds) and "Every Little Thing" (Beatles) that promised bigger things. That came two years later with "The Yes Album": lyrics with a cosmic feel, melodies inspired more by folk and classical music, instrumental virtuosity that allowed for intricate arrangements, and, of course, the incomparable singer Jon Anderson, who seemed to hover over it all with his ethereal falsetto while being right in the middle of it all. In addition, Steve Howe was a brilliant guitarist and Chris Quire positioned his bass as prominently as only John Entwistle in The Who dared. In early 1972, Rick Wakeman joined the band as the new keyboardist (with a Moog synthesizer) and their best album to date, "Fragile", became an international breakthrough. The single "Roundabout" reached the Top 20 in the US and the fantasy cover artwork by Roger Dean was a perfect fit for the music. In the same year, Yes came up with their interim masterpiece. The title track "Close To The Edge", which spanned the entire album, captured the quintessence of their sound and propelled the band into the Top 5 on both sides of the Atlantic. Ten years later, the Brits seemed deader than almost any other band. But Trevor Horn's astute production and Jon Anderson's undiminished charisma led Yes to an amazing renaissance with a new generation in 1983 with the album "90125". The spectacular break in the huge hit "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" is one of the most sampled rap scenes ever. Going For The One Tormato Drama 90125 Big Generator
