Bonifatio Gratiani

Bonifatio Gratiani

17th-Century Italian Baroque Composer and Singer

Bonifazio Gratiani (1604/5–1664) was an Italian composer and priest from the Baroque era. He is known for his contributions to the development of Roman sacred music during the 17th century. Gratiani held various positions throughout his career, including maestro di cappella at different churches in Rome. His compositions include a variety of sacred works such as oratorios, motets, and other liturgical pieces. Gratiani's music was characterized by the expressive text setting and dramatic style that were becoming increasingly popular during his time. While he may not be as widely recognized as some of his contemporaries like Monteverdi or Carissimi, Gratiani's work remains an important part of the Baroque vocal repertoire.
