Dread Sovereign is a doom metal band formed in Dublin, Ireland, by Primordial vocalist Alan Averill, also known as Nemtheanga. The band was established in 2013 and is known for its heavy, doom-laden sound that incorporates elements of classic heavy metal and black metal. Alongside Averill, the group's lineup has included guitarist Bones (also of ZOM and Wizards of Firetop Mountain) and drummer Johnny King (also of Altar of Plagues and Conan). Dread Sovereign's debut album, "All Hell's Martyrs," was released in 2014 to positive reception within the metal community. They followed up with their second album, "For Doom the Bell Tolls," in 2017, which continued to build their reputation for crafting epic and darkly atmospheric music. Their third full-length album, "Alchemical Warfare," was released in 2021, further solidifying their place in the doom metal genre. The band has been praised for its storytelling lyrics and Averill's distinctive vocal style, which adds a unique character to their sound.
