Jiří Pinkas

Jiří Pinkas

Czech Contemporary Composer and Musician

Jiří Pinkas was a Czech conductor and composer, primarily known for his work in the classical music genre. He was born on February 10, 1926, in Brno, Czechoslovakia, and he passed away on April 15, 1979. Pinkas had a significant impact on Czech music both as a conductor and through his pedagogical efforts. He served as the chief conductor of the Brno State Philharmonic Orchestra and was also associated with the Janáček Opera House. His repertoire included a wide range of works from different periods, but he was particularly noted for his interpretations of Czech composers such as Leoš Janáček, Bedřich Smetana, and Antonín Dvořák. While Pinkas did not gain widespread international fame, his contributions to Czech music were substantial, and he helped to promote Czech musical heritage both domestically and abroad. Regarding the specific albums mentioned—Jihočeská Suita / Maryša, Kate And The Devil, Opera In 3 Acts, Jakobín—it is not clear if Jiří Pinkas had direct involvement with these works or recordings.
