French Composer and Musicologist

Joseph Canteloube was a French composer, musicologist, and pianist, best known for his collection of folk songs from the Auvergne region of France titled "Chants d'Auvergne." Born on October 21, 1879, in Annonay in the Ardèche, and raised in the Auvergne region, Canteloube had a deep affection for the local folk music which greatly influenced his work. He studied under Vincent d'Indy and Albert Roussel and was associated with the Schola Cantorum in Paris. Throughout his career, Canteloube dedicated himself to preserving and celebrating French regional folk traditions through his compositions and arrangements.
