The Icicle Works is a British alternative rock band that formed in Liverpool in 1980. The group was primarily known for their 1983 hit single "Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream)" from their self-titled debut album. Fronted by singer-songwriter Ian McNabb, the band's music was characterized by a blend of neo-psychedelic and new wave influences. Although they did not achieve significant commercial success in the United States, The Icicle Works were more popular in their home country and had a number of charting albums and singles throughout the 1980s. After their initial success, the band continued to record and release music, with albums such as "Permanent Damage" which came out in the 1990s. However, by this time, the band's commercial momentum had slowed. Despite changes in lineup and periods of hiatus, Ian McNabb has kept The Icicle Works' name alive through various incarnations and continues to have a dedicated fan base.
