A versatile two-way speaker system with aluminium-diaphragm woofers and a fabric-covered tweeter

The AQ Wega 78 is a column-mounted loudspeaker with beautifully clean lines and surfaces.

The design of the AQ Wega 78 two-way loudspeaker is a collaboration with Novague, an industrial design studio. In his 10 years of independent career, Peter Novague has created a number of successful designs, several of which have been awarded the Red Dot Prize. The Novague studio has already produced furniture, a TV set, a mobile phone, an ERKO car with a face inspired by the legendary Skoda 110R, based on the Audi R8 concept. Working together with the AQ design office, Novague brings his design style to new AQ products.

The AQ Wega 78 uses the principle of integrated transducers that are housed between the layers of the sandwich face. This principle eliminates problematic transitions between the edge of the speaker and the soundboard. Instead of a sharp edge, a radius at critical points minimizes diffraction and has a positive effect on the directivity of the speaker.

The cabinet is trapezoidal in cross-section, which makes the speaker more rigid for the same weight and suppresses unwanted standing waves inside the speaker. The trapezoidal body of the loudspeaker is organically united with the rigid base, which is equipped with a trio of defrosting spikes at the bottom. This solution suppresses the transmission of vibrations between the loudspeaker and its surroundings. As a result of this principle, the bass is both transparent and solid.

A pair of mid-bass drivers with a 6" metal diaphragm in the shape of a spherical canopy works into a common volume. The diaphragms are suspended on a low-damping rubber suspension with long life and linear travel.

Through an electronic switch with an ingenious combination of first and second order filters, the woofers are tied to the Vifa tweeter, which has an air coil in a neodymium magnet magnetic field. The linear motor is housed in a closed chamber that extends the range to lower frequencies. The semi-rhodium diaphragm is complemented by a directional cone in the centre.

The Wega 78's sound is destined for listeners who place a premium on precision and dynamic reproduction. Thanks to the excellent quality of the loudspeakers used, it has sufficient power reserve and can handle all kinds of music.
