V roce 1985 oslavili The Cult se singlem "She Sells Sanctuary" a albem "Love" komerční průlom a stali se jednou z nejslibnějších nových rockových kapel. Následné album nahráli opět společně se Stevem Brownem, tentokrát však ve studiu Manor v Oxfordshire. Album bylo dokončeno koncem října 1986 a dostalo název "Peace", ale kapela nebyla s výsledkem spokojena. Znělo příliš uhlazeně. Zavolali proto Ricku Rubinovi, jehož zvuk na "Walk This Way" od Run-D. M.C. se jim líbil. Ten nechal kapelu vše znovu nahrát v New Yorku. Kult nazval album "Electric" a stalo se milionově prodávaným. V následujících letech se čas od času objevovaly původní písně z "Peace" a v roce 2000 vyšlo album celé jako součást box setu. Od té doby je nedostupné.
