A Tokyo-born keyboardist and singer with long-standing affiliations with YMO-founder Haruomi Hosono. She has written and performed chanson, technopop, classical pieces, vocal jazz, and soundtrack work.
Father was a bassoon player with Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, mother a classical vocalist. Received an education in classical music and ballet. Gained a recording contract with RCA following an appearance on the TV talent show "君こそスターだ!" ("You Are The Star!") which she won in October 1978. In early work she used her real name 越美晴 (Koshi Miharu) but for albums from 1989 to the present day uses コシミハル, which is pronounced the same. Koshi deliberately sought to "de-idolise" her image from the point she met and started to collaborate with future long-term partner Haruomi Hosono.
