Danish black metal and folk musician

Myrkur is the stage name of Danish musician and singer-songwriter Amalie Bruun. She emerged in the black metal scene with her eponymous EP "Myrkur" in 2014, which was followed by her debut full-length album "M" in 2015. Myrkur's music is known for blending elements of black metal with traditional Scandinavian folk music, ethereal atmospheres, and choral arrangements, creating a distinctive sound within the genre. Her second album, "Mareridt," released in 2017, received critical acclaim and won the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best Album. In a departure from her black metal roots, Myrkur's third album "Folkesange," released in 2020, saw her fully embracing traditional Nordic folk music, eschewing electric guitars and harsh vocals for a more acoustic and serene approach. Throughout her career, Myrkur has been both praised for her innovative fusion of styles and subject to controversy within the black metal community due to her unconventional approach to the genre. Despite this, she has established herself as a unique and influential figure in modern metal and folk music.
